Tribute to Madeline

Her Story

Madeline, also known as Miss Maddie Mack, came into my life through an unexpected adoption.

I had gone to the pound with another cat in mind that I had seen on the website, but when I saw her watching me, something inside me told me she was the one, so she came home with me.

She was the most beautiful Japanese bobtail I’ve ever seen, and she stayed with me for 14 years.

Her Spunky Spirit

Maddie was a spunky, energetic bundle of fur. She had a presence about her that filled the space around her.

She was very loving and had such a sweetness to her; she wasn’t your standard cat. In addition, she could do tricks, which always amused me and made her feel that little bit more special.

My favourite part about her was the black blob under her pink nose. It was her fingerprint, her uniquely identifying mark.

The Little Things

Every night, she had this routine. When it was time for her daily treat, she would stretch her left hind leg out as far as it would go. I never could figure out why she did this, but it became our nightly ritual.

She would sit for hours watching me make my quilts. Some days, I would play dress-up with her and put funny hats on her. Her favourite toy was her robotic mouse, and in winter, she would curl up on the cover of the heating vent to keep warm. That was her spot.

Another trick of hers was jumping up onto my shoulders. One moment, she would be leaping through the air and landing perfectly on me. I have no idea how she never missed. But that was her, full of surprises, playful, and filled with a zest for life.

Our Bond

Madeline was with me the entire time I lived alone. She wasn’t just a pet. She was my companion, my comfort, my best friend.

Maddie made the ordinary moments feel special simply by being there.

The bond we shared is something I know I will never get over losing.

Always Remembered

I remember the way she would watch me quilt, the way she would find her warmth in winter, and the way she would stretch that little leg without fail.

She went downhill so quickly, and the vet didn’t know why. My only wish is that we had more time together.

She was the sweetest soul, and that is what will always stay with me.

💛 Miss Maddie Mack, I’ll never get over losing you.

🐾 Closing Reflection

Some companions become part of the quiet structure of our lives. Not always in big moments, but in the steady, everyday presence they offer.

When they are gone, we feel not only their absence but also the silence they leave behind.

Madeline’s spirit lives on in those small remembered moments, in the routines, the warmth, and the love that never truly leaves.
