Grief’s Voice Revealed: A Tribute Poem for the Love That Remains
Grief doesn’t always arrive loudly. Sometimes, it moves like a whisper through our days, quiet, constant, and deeply tied to the love we carry.
This poem gives voice to grief as if it could speak for itself, not to harm, but to remind us that love still lives, even in the silence left behind.
Grief’s Voice Revealed
by Sandra Lynne Mitchell (2025)
If grief could speak, it wouldn’t shout,
It’d whisper truths we live without.
A breath between the words we say,
A shadow that won’t drift away.
“I come,” it says, “from love so deep,
I echo through the tears you keep.
I’m born when hearts are torn apart,
Yet still I guard the tender heart.”
“I’m not your foe, though I bring pain,
I walk beside you through the rain.
I hold the shape of those now gone,
A quiet proof their love lives on.”
“You’ll beg me leave, you’ll curse my name,
But I arrive with none to blame.
In time, I’ll soften, lose my edge,
And rest like moss upon a ledge.”
“You’ll feel me less, but I’ll remain,
Not to wound, but to sustain.
For through your sorrow, fierce and true,
The one you lost still lives in you.”
A Personal Note
Grief poetry offers more than words. It provides reflection, release, and a way to honour the love we still carry.
If you’re grieving a beloved pet, I hope this piece reminds you that you are not alone. Your sorrow speaks to how deeply you loved, and your love still echoes.
