Moving across the world is a big deal, but doing it with two cocker spaniels? Now that’s an adventure! Meet Max and Axel, our beloved fur babies who’ve travelled farther than most humans.
We adopted Max and Axel in 2013 through Project Dog in Durban, South Africa. Their story started in heartbreaking circumstances—a pregnant cocker spaniel left alone in a garage with barely any food or water. By the time help arrived, only three puppies had survived. Despite their rough start, Max and Axel have brought nothing but joy into our lives, proving that love and care can turn even the darkest beginnings into something beautiful.
From South Africa to Costa Rica
In 2019, our journey took us from South Africa to Costa Rica, with Max and Axel wagging their way across continents. Petstravel, a South African pet relocation company, was a lifesaver, handling the complex paperwork and prepping the boys for their big adventure. Vaccines, health certificates, export permits—you name it, they sorted it.
We chose Lufthansa because of their excellent pet services. Max and Axel travelled in a climate-controlled carrier designed to keep them calm and comfy. Reuniting with them in Costa Rica was emotional. Their wagging tails and boundless energy made every moment of preparation worth it. It was a joy to watch them explore the tropical landscapes, sniffing every flower and leaf.
From Costa Rica to Spain
Fast forward to 2022, and it was time for another big move to Spain. Even with some experience under our belts, the process was still a whirlwind. In Costa Rica, we worked with Pet Lounge, who expertly guided us through the paperwork, vaccinations, and health checks, making the transition seamless.
Once again, Lufthansa came through with their pet-friendly services. By now, Max and Axel were seasoned travellers, though at 9 years old, they were a little more cautious. Ever anxious, Axel curled up tight his carrier the whole way while Max, our laid-back boy, likely napped, dreamed of Spanish beaches.
Reuniting in Spain was just as heartwarming as the first time. The Costa del Sol has since become their playground, with sunny days, sandy beaches, and endless spots for them to explore.
